On November 25, the Queensland Government announced the establishment of the Grow Cultural Tourism Fund, which aims to boost cultural tourism across the state, using the arts as a driving force, to activate communities and foster economic growth. The Fund will focus on strengthening the state's arts and cultural calendar and supporting existing events to expand their impact.
The Importance of Cultural Tourism: Economic Growth and Community Revitalization
Queensland Minister for Treaty Affairs, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, Communities and the Arts, Leeanne Enoch, stressed that cultural tourism is vital to Queensland's economic growth. She said the fund will not only enhance Queensland's global reputation but also prepare for the upcoming 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Brisbane.
The fund will provide grants of up to AUD 80,000 across three categories: feasibility studies for new events, enhancing the cultural tourism experience of non-arts events, and expanding the scale and impact of existing arts and cultural events. This initiative will help Queensland showcase its unique and rich arts and culture on the national and international stage.
Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe stressed that a vibrant calendar of arts and cultural events was vital to the tourism economy, saying such events would encourage visitors to explore new destinations and discover experiences they had not previously considered.
Queensland's arts and culture voice: shining on the global stage
With the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games approaching, this new Queensland Government initiative will support the cultural calendar and arts and cultural tourism events across the state. It will not only be a grand showcase for Queensland culture, but also a way to bring Queensland’s stories and art to the world.
The establishment of the Cultural Tourism Promotion Fund marks a new beginning for Queensland on the global cultural tourism map. From now until the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, Queensland will showcase its unique artistic charm and offer unforgettable cultural experiences to the world. This is not only a unique showcase for Queensland artists and stories, but also a profound invitation to global travelers.
