The University of Queensland (UQ), founded in 1909 in Brisbane, Queensland's capital, is a renowned public comprehensive university in Australia and the first university in Queensland. As one of Australia's Group of Eight universities, UQ consistently ranks among the top 50 universities in the world in several major world university rankings, and the UQ Business School has been ranked among the top 100 business schools in the world by The Economist magazine for many consecutive years.
UQ's main campus is located in the university district of St. Lucia, a suburb of Brisbane's city center, just 7 kilometers from the business center, and covers an area of over 114 hectares. The university also has three other main campuses and over 40 research centers, colleges, observatories, and research stations. The university currently has six major departments, which are further divided into many different colleges and research units. The university also has the most comprehensive sports facilities of any university in Australia. In addition to a variety of standard venues, the more unique ones include an archery range, a hockey field, and a race walking track. Other facilities can also meet the needs of various types of students, and there is even a cinema on campus!
