Today I want to tell you about some "historic sites".
The other day, while walking through Annerley, I saw a strange-looking house. It was a new house built on the same land as a very old house.
The reason for this is quite obvious: the original house was a character home. These are usually pre-war, meaning they date back to before 1946. Brisbane Council said these old buildings cannot be demolished.
Look at the picture (black and white), it is an aerial view from 1946. It is very clear that the house was already renovated at that time.
If the buyer knew about this upfront, there wouldn't be a problem. But if they discovered after the purchase that the house couldn't be demolished, that's a major issue. It's like the new buyer moving the old house to one side and building a new one on another, leaving them with the burden of living in the old house and maintaining it forever.

The only good thing is that the land is large enough for him to build a second house. However, he bought it in 2019, and it's still not finished as of now (2022). I don't think the process will be smooth.
So buying a property really requires checking a lot of things, which ordinary real estate agents may not know because they work as town planners, or people in the construction industry who know them can answer.
