Instead, it employs a trackless tram system. The system consists of electric buses, each 24.5 meters long and divided into three sections connected by articulated links. Because it doesn't require track, Metro can operate flexibly on existing bus lanes, reducing infrastructure costs and eliminating the need to alter the city's existing transportation network.

Metro's design not only draws on the advantages of bus and rail systems, but also provides flexible and efficient transportation capabilities. This trackless tram system can adapt to Brisbane's existing infrastructure, avoiding the large-scale engineering required by traditional subways, making it an ideal choice for the city's rapid development. The city government also took environmental and cost-effectiveness into consideration when designing this system, thus choosing this efficient and flexible solution.

Will it pass by your home?

Brisbane Metro's initial routes will primarily cover the southern part of the city, running along the South East Busway. While traditional metro systems typically operate high-speed trains on rails, Brisbane Metro is a trackless tram system utilizing electric bus technology and operating on existing bus lanes. This misleading name has led some residents to misalign their expectations of the system with its actual reality.

Some residents have suggested changing the name to avoid confusion, and have proposed alternative names such as "Brisbane Electric Rapid Transit (BERT)" to make the nature of the system clearer to the public. However, the city government stated that the name "Metro" is not the key point. What is most important is that the system can provide efficient and convenient public transportation services to the city.

According to a survey, over 70% of respondents believed the name should be changed to reflect the system's differences from traditional subways. The Transport Department responded that it may review the name in the future, but at this stage it is more focused on the system's operational efficiency and expansion plans. It hopes to reduce public concern about the name by providing high-quality public transportation services. The city government believes that as citizens gain a deeper understanding of the new system, the controversy over the name will gradually fade, and the system's effectiveness will ultimately be the public's focus.

Will there be an effect of rising property prices?

The opening of the Brisbane Metro and its future expansion plans will have a profound impact on the local property market. With the improvement of the public transport network, especially the fast and efficient Metro system, transportation connections between the city and the suburbs will become more convenient, which will directly drive the development of the surrounding area's real estate market.

First, demand for properties along the Metro line is expected to rise significantly. Whether it's the initial launch of the line or future expansion to suburbs in the north (such as Carseldine), east (such as Capalaba), or south (such as Springwood), these areas will see significantly improved commuting convenience, attracting more homebuyers and investors. Improved transport networks will reduce commute times, making these suburbs desirable residential options, especially for workers who need to commute frequently into the city center.

Secondly, housing prices in these areas are expected to rise as demand increases. Since convenient transportation is often a primary consideration for homebuyers, the opening of the Metro will undoubtedly increase the attractiveness of these areas, thereby driving up housing prices. Similar trends have been seen in other cities with public transportation expansions, such as Sydney and Melbourne, where housing prices in surrounding areas typically rise when new transportation hubs open.

Furthermore, high-density residential areas in the city center will also benefit from the introduction of the Metro system. Since Metro effectively reduces traffic pressure in the city, especially during peak hours, it will further improve accessibility and convenience, encouraging more people to choose to live or work in the city center. This trend is likely to boost demand for properties within the city center.
